Tahiti flowers, June 2006

As you would expect from the climate, the flowers are good and plentiful. What you may not expect is that at macro range, the slightest wind can blow things out of focus. Dark rain clouds do not help.

The bougainvillea is native to South America. It is named after Louis Antoine de Bougainville, who went sulking off to the South seas after his defeat in the French and Indian War.

Hibiscus. This wall has chunks of coral in it.

 

Hibiscus after the rain. I was pleased to find that in spite of its lowly consumer grade (and lack of weather seals,) Canon's Digital Rebel held up fine on a rainy walk around Maupiti.
